The deputy commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps (RVC) was tasked with planning an assassination attempt on one of the leaders of the Russian opposition movement during his visit to Ukraine and was ordered to eliminate servicemen of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU).
As part of its systematic counter-sabotage efforts, the SSU worked to prevent the assassination, which had been planned by the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) to take place on Ukraine’s Independence Day.
The SSU obtained the relevant information through operational channels.
In particular, contacts were uncovered between the deputy commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps of the International Legion under the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense and Russian special services. The individual in question was to prepare an assassination attempt against one of the leaders of the Russian opposition movement, who was scheduled to arrive in Ukraine at that time, the SSU emphasized.
