The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) has exposed preparations for an assassination attempt on a Ukrainian serviceman in Kyiv and preemptively detained two Russian agents.

The SSU reported this, as cited by Ukrinform.

According to the SSU, the suspects planned to blow up the serviceman’s car near the pedestrian area of Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square). One of the women was supposed to plant a homemade explosive device under the vehicle for remote detonation.

The agency said Russia intended not only to kill the serviceman but also to cause maximum civilian casualties.

Investigators found a GPS tracker attached to the serviceman’s vehicle before the suspect managed to place the explosive, which allowed the SSU to uncover the plot and detain both women in time.
