Ukrainian special services have prevented an alleged terrorist attack prepared by Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) against a Russian opposition leader who arrived in Ukraine for Independence Day, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) said. According to the SBU, the agency worked with Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) to thwart the planned attack against one of the leaders of a Russian opposition political movement.JOIN US ON TELEGRAMFollow our coverage of the war on the @Kyivpost_official. The opposition figure had arrived in Ukraine ahead of Independence Day celebrations. The SBU did not disclose the person’s identity or provide details about the alleged plot. Operational and investigative measures are underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the planned attack. The development comes amid reports that Stepan Kaplunov, deputy commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK), disappeared near his home several days ago. The RDK headquarters has said it does not currently have information about his whereabouts. RDK chief of staff Oleksandr Fortuna said the group had contacted HUR, SBU, and the State Bureau of Investigation after Kaplunov’s disappearance. However, Fortuna later told Suspilne that he had made the information public on his own initiative. “This is my personal initiative, as the chief of staff and a friend of Stepan Kaplunov. We are united by a common military path and joint work in the Corps,” he said.
