The counterintelligence unit of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) and the National Police foiled a terrorist attack organized by Russian intelligence services and prevented the assassination of the head of a Ukrainian defense-industry company in the Kyiv region.

According to Ukrinform, the SSU reported this on its website.

"According to available information, the FSB of the Russian Federation organized the assassination attempt. The enemy intended to eliminate the official using an explosive device attached under the driver's seat of his car. SSU counterintelligence and the National Police detected, seized, and neutralized the bomb in advance. It contained 1 kg of RDX, equivalent to 2 kg of TNT," the statement said.

Investigators established that the attack was being prepared by a 63-year-old pensioner who had moved to the Kyiv region from Luhansk region.

In February of this year, the FSB recruited him through his son, who had left the temporarily occupied territory and lives in Russia.
