A learner’s alleged foul-mouthed attack on a teacher, captured on video and widely shared online, has sparked outrage in North West, with the Department of Education promising disciplinary action.

A learner’s alleged foul-mouthed and disrespectful attack on a teacher has sparked outrage after footage of the incident was widely circulated on social media.

The North West Department of Education has condemned the behaviour, with the video prompting anger among educators, parents and civil society groups who have called for action.

The department confirmed that the incident had been reported to the relevant district office, with school authorities instructed to follow the appropriate disciplinary procedures.

Department spokesperson Dr Elias Malindi said schools must remain places where teachers and learners can work and learn in an environment built on safety and respect.
