Gauteng Education MEC Lebogang Maile has ordered an urgent investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct at Curtis Nkondo School of Specialisation after a Grade 11 learner reported that an educator made an inappropriate sexual remark to her during the second term.
An investigation has been launched into allegations of sexual misconduct involving educators and learners at Curtis Nkondo School of Specialisation in Emdeni, Soweto, after a Grade 11 learner alleged that an educator made an inappropriate sexual remark to her during the second term.
In a statement on Wednesday, Gauteng MEC for Education, Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Lebogang Maile said he had directed the GDE to urgently investigate the allegations.
He said the department was treating the allegations with the seriousness they deserved, particularly because they concerned the safety, dignity and wellbeing of learners and involved allegations against people occupying positions of trust and authority.
Maile said information formally submitted by the school indicated that, on Friday, August 7, 2026, the school principal referred a sexual harassment complaint involving an educator to the Johannesburg Central District Dispute Management Office and requested urgent intervention.
