The National Teachers' Union (Natu) has called on the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education to broaden its investigation into allegations of corruption in the appointment of teachers, arguing that any probe should extend beyond a single official following explosive claims contained in a leaked video involving a senior departmental couple.
The union's call follows allegations made by Umlazi District Director Busisiwe "Metu" Mahlambi against her husband, acting Chief Director and departmental spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi, in a video that has gone viral on social media.
In the recording, Busisiwe "Metu" Mahlambi accuses her husband of involvement in the alleged sale of teacher posts and claims he had sexual relationships with teachers seeking employment. The allegations have not been substantiated, and both Mahlambis have strongly denied any wrongdoing.
