The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education has initiated an independent investigation into serious allegations regarding the unlawful selling of teaching posts.
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education has announced that an independent investigation will be conducted into an allegation that a senior official was involved in the unlawful selling of jobs in the department.
The announcement comes after a video has been circulating on social media showing the department's Head of Communications, Muzi Mahlambi in an argument with his wife Metu Mahlambi, who is the department's Umlazi District Director. According to the Sunday Tribune, in the video Metu Mahlambi makes several allegations against her husband, including that he was involved in the alleged selling of teaching posts and had sexual relationships with teachers who were seeking employment.
The couple, in a joint statement, said the video was from four years ago and the allegations made were not based on fact.
In its statement on Tuesday, the department said the allegations were being viewed in a serious light, as they touch on the integrity of public administration and the public's trust.
