Three people died in a road accident involving two motorcycles that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday on Alexandras Avenue, in the center of Athens.
According to information so far, the motorcycle on which two 27-year-old women were riding was moving on Alexandras Avenue, in the direction towards Kifissias Avenue. On the crossroads of Armeni Vraila Street, it attempted a U-turn, resulting in a collision with the motorcycle driven by the 51-year-old, who was moving in the opposite direction, towards Patision Street.
Due to the severity of the collision, the two motorcycles were dragged for several meters and ended up hitting a parked car.
The victims were transferred to the Red Cross Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
Speaking to state-run broadcaster ERT, police spokeswoman Constantia Dimoglidou said the main scenario being examined is that one of the two drivers run a red light. She also said that it appears that none of the three riders were wearing a helmet.
