Another of Bulgaria’s new electric trains has been vandalized, with graffiti sprayed on the railcar while it was parked at Pernik railway station. The incident is the second reported case involving one of the newly introduced trains, following a similar act of vandalism in Blagoevgrad earlier this month.
The latest incident occurred during the night of August 29-30, when train No. 34 023/024 was targeted at Pernik station. The train had been scheduled to operate suburban passenger service No. 50202 between Pernik and Sofia.
A representative of Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ) reported the damage to police at around 4:30 a.m., after which an investigation and search for the perpetrators began. The train is expected to remain at a depot while the graffiti is removed.
The vandalism was also reported by Mario Evstatiev, who published information about the incident and called for tougher action against those responsible. He said a considerable amount of paint had been used and that the perpetrators appeared to have spent dozens of minutes defacing the train.
"This is not art, but pure damage to public property," Evstatiev wrote, urging authorities to identify and hold the perpetrators accountable.
