One of Bulgaria’s new Škoda electric trains has been vandalized with graffiti just days after entering passenger service, with the incident occurring while the train was at Blagoevgrad station.
The train was vandalized sometime between the night of August 18 and the early hours of August 19. During a routine inspection at around 4:45 a.m., the transport crew discovered that the first carriage had been covered with spray-painted graffiti. The markings consist of two pieces covering approximately two square meters in total.
The perpetrators have not yet been identified, according to Anatoly Atanasov, director of Rolling Stock and Operations at Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ).
“At the moment, the perpetrators have not been identified. The incident occurred on the 18th and 19th of this month. When the train was at Blagoevgrad station on the first track, during a routine inspection at 4:45 in the morning, the transport crew found that the first carriage of the train was scratched with graffiti. The graffiti is two, about two square meters,” Atanasov said.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications has filed a report with the relevant authorities in an effort to identify and apprehend those responsible. The ministry said it would continue working to protect the newly delivered rolling stock.
