Bulgaria is moving toward a unified ticketing system that will eventually allow passengers to combine train travel with Sofia's metro, buses, trams and trolleybuses, but the long-awaited single ticket remains unavailable for purchase.
From August 31, 2026, the technical rules governing the creation of a national system connecting the different transport networks officially take effect. However, the new framework does not mean passengers can immediately buy one ticket for a journey involving several modes of transport.
Ordinance No. H-7 of the Ministry of Transport and Communications was finally adopted and published on August 25. It establishes the requirements and deadlines for connecting the systems, but no specific date has been announced for the launch of actual sales. Prices for combined journeys have also not been disclosed, and there has been no confirmation of a test connection between the national railway operator and Sofia's existing ticketing system.
The reform is intended to allow passengers to plan, pay for and track an entire journey through a single system, regardless of how many transport operators or types of vehicles are involved. A national online portal and mobile application are planned as part of the system.
