Two major airlines plan to offer 103,000 seats on flights from Germany to Bulgaria's Black Sea coast during next summer's season, Tourism Minister Ilin Dimitrov said in Sozopol.
The announcement comes after a significant decline in German visitors this summer, which the minister attributed largely to insufficient air capacity. Bulgaria lost around 220,000 airline seats from Germany this year, Dimitrov said, blaming the previous regular government for failing to act in time.
The additional flights are expected to significantly increase connectivity between Germany and Bulgaria's Black Sea resorts next year. Most of the new services are planned to begin immediately after the Eurovision Song Contest, which Bulgaria will host in Burgas.
Dimitrov said the airlines involved are ICC and Corendon, with the combined capacity reaching nearly 100,000 seats according to his statement, while the announced figure for the two carriers is 103,000 seats.
"We are talking about the airlines ICC and Corendon and nearly 100,000 seats that will be available from next year, and most importantly, they will start from May 15," Dimitrov said.
