Wizz Air, Bulgaria’s largest airline by market share, announced the launch of a new direct connection between Varna and Basel, Switzerland, expanding travel options from Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast.
The new route will begin operating on October 27, 2026, with flights scheduled twice a week, every Tuesday and Saturday. Tickets are already available through the airline’s website and mobile application, with one-way fares starting at €29.99.
Basel, located at the meeting point of Switzerland, France and Germany, is one of the region’s key economic, cultural and transport centers. The city is known for its historic Old Town, where visitors can explore the distinctive Basel Cathedral, built with red sandstone and overlooking the Rhine River, as well as the striking red Town Hall nearby.
The Swiss city is also recognized as a major cultural destination, offering numerous museums, including the renowned Kunstmuseum and the Jean Tinguely Museum. Among the most popular attractions are the iconic Mittlere Brücke (Middle Bridge) and the traditional ferries that cross the Rhine using only the river’s current.
The airline said the new Varna-Basel connection will strengthen links between Bulgaria and Switzerland by providing passengers from the Black Sea region with easier access to one of Europe’s most dynamic areas. The route is expected to support both tourism and business travel between the two countries.
