Civil protection authorities were on high alert on Saturday due to an extreme threat of wildfire in two regions of Greece.

According to the Fire Risk Prediction Map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection, Crete and the South Aegean (specifically Rhodes and Karpathos) were on a category-5 threat on Greece’s 5-notch scale

At the same time, a very high fire risk (category 4) is forecasted on Saturday for the region of Attica (including the island of Kythira), Central Greece (Evia), Northern Aegean (Lesvos, Chios, Samos, and Ikaria), South Aegean (Cyclades, Kalymnos, and Kos), and the Peloponnese (Laconia).
