Strong northerly winds and an extreme wildfire risk are expected across Greece on Saturday, with winds reaching 8 to 9 Beaufort in parts of the Aegean.
Temperatures are expected to drop slightly, reaching 35 to 37 degrees Celsius across much of the mainland and Ionian islands, and up to 38 degrees in parts of western Greece. Athens is forecast to reach 34 degrees.
The weather will be mostly sunny, with thunderstorms possible in Macedonia, Epirus and other parts of northern and central Greece in the afternoon. Thessaloniki could see thunderstorms from late afternoon.
Crete and the Dodecanese face an extreme wildfire risk, while elevated risk is forecast for Attica, Evia, parts of the Peloponnese and the Aegean. Strong winds could hamper firefighting efforts.
Winds are expected to weaken Sunday, with temperatures remaining high but below heatwave levels.
