High summer temperatures of up to 38 degrees Celsius are forecast for Tuesday in parts of the mainland, while strong north winds will blow in the Aegean Sea and brief spells of rain could affect some areas.

According to the National Meteorological Service, in the Greater Athens region the heat will reach a high of 37 degrees Celsius, while the breeze blowing through much of the day will get stronger in the evening.

In Thessaloniki, the maximum temperature will be 34 degrees.

Overall, the highest temperatures will be recorded on the mainland, with the islands expected to be up to three degrees cooler. Clouds will gather over the mainland highlands from the early afternoon, with a possibility of light rain.

In the Aegean, the winds will reach a maximum 7 on the 12-notch Beaufort Scale in the evening.
