MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police will consult stakeholders on a proposal to allow police officers to inspect gun owners’ homes to ensure that firearms are properly and securely stored, PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said Friday.
Nartatez said the proposal will be carefully studied, with the PNP taking into considerations the sentiments and concerns of all sectors involved.
“This will be carefully studied and we assure that the concerns and sentiments of all the sectors involved will be respected and factored in,” he said in a statement.
“Consultations have to be done to ensure that such a measure would not step on the rights of the people involved, especially on the aspect of privacy since the proposal already includes their homes,” he added.
