MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. reminded officers to observe protocols in line with human rights and humanitarian law.
The top cop said this in a statement on Tuesday in light of the observation of International Humanitarian Law Month this August, which aims to raise awareness on legal protections for civilians and noncombatants during armed conflict.
“We have directed all commanders to ensure that every police operation is conducted in accordance with the rule of law, human rights and International Humanitarian Law,” Nartatez noted.
“Our personnel will continue to undergo regular training, closely coordinate with partner agencies, and strictly follow operational procedures that prioritize the protection of civilians while effectively addressing security threats,” he added.
