MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has activated its disaster response teams amid the continued unrest of the Mayon Volcano in Albay.

In a statement on Monday, PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said he had ordered the police force in the area “to remain vigilant and ready to provide immediate assistance to communities that may be affected by further volcanic activity.”

Law enforcers in the affected areas were also ordered “to immediately activate their emergency and disaster response teams to ensure the safety and security of residents living near the volcano and support local government efforts in disaster preparedness.”
