MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine National Police (PNP) has placed its disaster response units on alert in anticipation of Typhoon Domeng’s impact on Northern Luzon, prompting preparations for possible evacuations and emergency operations.

“Police offices in areas that may be affected by Domeng have been directed to remain on alert for its possible effects and to immediately respond to requests for assistance from the public in coordination with local government units (LGUs),” PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said on Sunday.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), Domeng is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Monday afternoon.

As of 3 a.m., Domeng was located 670 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes. It was moving north-northwest at 20 kph. Pagasa said the typhoon is expected to maintain its track until Monday before turning toward southern Japan.
