MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) deployed over 2,000 personnel to support emergency response operations following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck parts of Mindanao on Monday, amid intensified rescue, evacuation, and relief efforts.
As of 1 p.m., a total of 2,092 PNP personnel have been deployed nationwide for augmentation duties.These include support in evacuation centers, security of vital installations, and direct assistance to affected residents.
Authorities have opened 545 evacuation centers, which currently shelter more than 2,400 individuals and over 500 families receiving temporary aid and basic necessities.
“We are closely coordinating with all concerned agencies to ensure that help reaches our people as quickly as possible,” said PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. in a statement.
