MANILA, Philippines – Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. on Sunday appealed to Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa to cooperate with authorities and honor his duty as a former national police chief amid ongoing efforts to locate him.The PNP said it is still coordinating with other law enforcement agencies to track down dela Rosa as he remains out of the public eye amid legal developments related to the International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant for his arrest.Earlier, the Department of Justice said the ICC arrest warrant against the senator can be implemented, directing the PNP and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to arrest him over his alleged involvement in then-President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs.
“We are appealing to Senator Bato’s enduring sense of duty as a lifelong law enforcer to ensure this legal process is resolved with the utmost dignity,” said Nartatez in a statement.
Earlier reports quoted officials as saying the senator was presumed “armed and dangerous” under existing protocols because of his law enforcement background and access to firearms.
