MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) maintained that it was waiting for a directive from the Department of Justice (DOJ) on whether to enforce the International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant to arrest Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa.

The Supreme Court (SC) earlier denied dela Rosa’s request to block the enforcement of the global tribunal’s warrant without a local court order.

Asked whether the SC ruling meant the police could now arrest dela Rosa and turn him over to the ICC, in a press briefing in Camp Crame on Thursday, PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño said in Filipino, “We’re waiting on the orders of the DOJ as to whether to implement the warrant or not.”

But, if the DOJ does give an order, is the PNP prepared to arrest dela Rosa, its former chief-turned-senator?
