MANILA, Philippines — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Thursday explained that several local government units (LGUs) found it difficult to provide cash support to qualified solo parents due to funding constraints.
DILG Undersecretary for Local Government Marlo Iringan said many LGUs struggle to allocate enough funds for the subsidy under Republic Act No. 11861, or the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act.

“The normal challenges that LGUs faced [are] the usual. They are having difficulty. They have constraints as to the funds that they are going to allocate to support the solo parents,” Iringan said in response to the question of Gabriela party-list Rep. Sarah Elago during the House of Representatives appropriations committee hearing on the DILG’s 2027 proposed budget.
