A Greek appeals court has approved the extradition of a 39-year-old Turkish citizen wanted in Turkey for migrant smuggling.

The man denied the charges, calling them fabricated and claiming political persecution due to his Kurdish heritage and online posts. He previously served 3.5 years in Greece for the same offense before his 2022 release, and his asylum application was rejected.

The hearing was delayed after a fire in his cell at Diavata prison required his hospitalization along with two inmates. Authorities are investigating whether the fire was set in solidarity with another Turkish inmate facing extradition. No suspects have been identified.
