A Greek appeals court this week ruled that a 56-year-old man wanted by Australia on a homicide charge will not be extradited, his lawyer said.
The Patra Court of Appeals Council decided the statute of limitations had expired under Greek law.
The man was arrested in June in the Alsos area of Aigialeia after Interpol Australia issued a Red Notice for homicide.
Defense lawyer Yiannis Apostolopoulos told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency the court accepted arguments that the charge had lapsed, noting Greek law and the Greece-Australia treaty make non-extradition mandatory once an offense lapses in either country.
