Three Premier League clubs are in a quiet race to break a record that has stood since the 2018-19 season, and none of them are trying to spend the most money. They’re trying to sell the most.
Aston Villa leads the pack with 293.1 million euros (roughly £251 million) in player sales this summer as of August 26. Manchester City sits at 278.6 million euros, and Newcastle United is close behind at 275.5 million euros. All three are within striking distance of the 360 million euro mark set by Monaco seven years ago, the all-time record for transfer sales in a single window.
The deals driving the numbers
Villa’s total is anchored by one blockbuster transaction. Morgan Rogers’ move to Chelsea accounted for 138 million euros, or about £117 million, representing nearly half of Villa’s total sales figure on its own.
Newcastle’s haul has been powered by the departures of Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes.
