A man on the southern island of Crete has been arrested after complaints that celebratory gunshots were fired from his home during a wedding party, police said Tuesday.
A police statement said the 66-year-old suspect faces charges of harboring a criminal because he refused to divulge the identity of the person who had fired the shots from the premises.
The wedding party was on Sunday. Police who visited the house in a village in the Rethymno region found eight bullet casings.
Although illegal, celebratory gunfire is still common at weddings, baptisms and other social functions on Crete, where firearm possession is common – despite a series of promised police drives to crack down on gun laws breaches.
