Three DSD employees were targeted in hijackings in Khayelitsha in one week.
Three Western Cape Social Development employees have been targeted in hijackings and attempted hijackings in Khayelitsha in the space of a week, with one staff member shot at during the latest incident.
The employee, a policy developer in the department’s Child Protection programme, was conducting a monitoring visit to an NPO on Monday morning when she was targeted in an attempted hijacking.
Shots were fired during the incident, but she managed to escape and made her way to a nearby petrol station.
The attack follows two separate hijackings involving DSD employees in Khayelitsha last week.
