MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Agriculture (DA) urged farmers and fishers to take precautionary measures as Typhoon Obet enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). The weather system, while not expected to make landfall, is seen to intensify the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” over parts of the country.
In an advisory issued on Monday, Aug. 24, the DA said Obet had maximum sustained winds of 165 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 205 kph. It was moving west-northwestward at 30 kph.
Citing the latest Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) report, the DA said Obet would continue moving west-northwestward over the next two days and was expected to leave the PAR within 12 hours.
