In a shocking surge of violence, over 145 people have been murdered on the Cape Flats in just three weeks.
More than 145 people have been murdered on the Cape Flats between August 3 and 23, as another bloody night saw a string of shootings in the Athlone policing precinct before three more people were killed in Happy Valley.
The latest violence left eight people dead and another wounded in four separate shootings between Sunday evening and early Monday morning.
Athlone was particularly hard hit, with five people killed and one wounded in three separate shootings within just over two hours on Sunday night.
The first incident occurred at about 8.36pm in 3rd Avenue, Belgravia, where two men were shot. A 32-year-old man died at the scene, while another adult man was taken to hospital for treatment.
