A hiker collapsed and died during a long walk on the southern island of Crete amid the ongoing heatwave, reports said Monday.
The victim was only identified as a 41-year-old woman who had been hiking with a group of foreign tourists in the western Falassarna region.
Her companions called emergency services but attempts at resuscitation failed and the woman was pronounced dead in hospital in the western town of Chania late Sunday.
The precise cause of death was not immediately known.
