A young hiker from Chile who was walking from Albania to Greece has fallen to his death in a ravine on the Greek side of the rugged border, officials said.

Police said the 20-year-old man had been on a walking tour with a friend when he slipped and fell into the ravine near Mavromati in northwestern Greece. Firefighters summoned to the spot were able to extract the body from the ravine.

The victim’s 22-year-old walking companion reportedly told firefighters that the two had decided to walk from Albania to Greece to save money as they were low on funds.
