The body of a 25-year-old Spanish mountaineer was recovered from a remote, snow-covered area of Mount Olympus near a location known as “Louki,” bringing a conclusion to a multi-day search operation.

The victim’s family identified the remains on Tuesday. Search efforts launched Wednesday, May 20, after the climber’s father reported losing contact with his son. Witnesses said the young man had set out to reach Mytikas – Olympus’ highest peak- without proper equipment.

The recovery operation involved 14 firefighters from Litochoro, mountain rescue teams, drone units, volunteers from the Greek Rescue Team and a search-and-rescue helicopter.
