The City of Cape Town has resolved to allocate R31.9 million from its surplus of funds to finance projects that were not completed in the 2025/26 financial year pending the approval of rollover of funds by the National and Provincial Treasury.

A document tabled in the council meeting on Thursday stated that there were capital projects funded with conditional grants that were not yet implemented and completed by June 30.

No provision had been made for these projects in the 2026/27 capital budget.

Municipalities are required to apply for the roll-over of unspent conditional grants of the previous financial year by August 31 each year to the National Treasury and Provincial Treasury and are informed of the outcome of the roll-over applications in November.
