Human rights watchdog, the Amnesty International, has called on Nigerian authorities to urgently investigate a horrifying attack on rural communities in Sokoto State that left seven people dead and more than 17 others abducted.

The violent raid targeted the Dinawa, Munki, and Gidan Dare communities located within the Wurno Local Government Area of the state on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.

According to the rights organisation, 15 of those kidnapped during the assault are women and young girls, underlining the severe physical and emotional toll inflicted on vulnerable populations in the region.

Demanding swift action from federal and state officials, Amnesty International declared, "The Nigerian authorities must investigate the horrifying attack on Dinawa, Munki and Gidan Dare communities of Wurno local government Sokoto state in which 7 people were killed and more than 17 people abducted."
