Global human rights organisation, Amnesty International, has condemned the killing of at least 17 people in the Dangulbi community, Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto State, saying that Nigerian authorities have failed to protect vulnerable communities from recurring attacks by armed groups.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Amnesty International described the attack, which occurred on June 1, as another tragic example of the worsening insecurity affecting communities in Sokoto and neighbouring states.
"Amnesty International strongly condemns the killing of at least 17 people, including visitors who had travelled to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir with their families, during an attack by gunmen on the Dangulbi community in Tureta LGA of Sokoto State on 1 June 2026,” it said.
"The Nigerian authorities must urgently investigate this attack, ensure that those responsible are identified and brought to justice in fair proceedings, and take immediate steps to protect communities that remain at risk.
