Collector M. Prathap inaugurated an AIDS awareness programme at Nagercoil Collectorate on Friday.

Kanniyakumari District Collector M. Prathap flagged off the intensified Information, Education and Communication campaign and HIV/AIDS awareness rally, organised by the Health and Family Welfare Department, here on Friday.Speaking at the event Mr. Prathap said that the campaign aimed to create greater awareness among the public about HIV/AIDS and encourage people to undergo HIV testing.He added that HIV/AIDS counselling and testing centres including, Integrated Counselling and Testing Centres (ICTC) were available at Kanniyakumari Government Medical College Hospital (KKGMCH) in Asaripallam, taluk headquarters hospitals, government hospitals, Primary Health Centres (PHC), private hospitals and mobile ICTCs.The Collector further noted that proper understanding and awareness about AIDS and HIV is the best way to control the diseases, and the affected victims must be treated without any discrimination in the society. He urged the public to make use of the testing and counselling provided at PHCs and government hospitals.District Health Officer S.
