Gauteng is leveraging major international sporting events, such as the upcoming rugby clash between the Springboks and New Zealand, to enhance its tourism appeal and attract global visitors. This strategy aims to showcase the province's diverse offerings beyond traditional attractions.

Gauteng is positioning major international sporting events as a key driver of tourism, using them to attract visitors and showcase its broader tourism offering.

The upcoming rugby clash between the Springboks and New Zealand at Ellis Park is being positioned as one of the major sporting events drawing international attention to South Africa.

The rivalry between the Springboks and New Zealand, combined with the strong performances of South African teams in international rugby, has helped strengthen the country’s reputation as a sports tourism destination, according to spokesperson for Gauteng Tourism, Barba Gaoganediwe.

Speaking to IOL ahead of the Greatest Rivalry clash, he said visitors attending sporting events can also extend their trips to experience other tourism offerings, including game reserves, business events and visits to friends and relatives.
