Gauteng is using major international sporting events to attract overseas visitors and encourage them to explore the province beyond the stadium

For international rugby fans, a Springboks clash with New Zealand is about much more than 80 minutes on the field.

For Gauteng, major sporting events are increasingly being used as an opportunity to showcase the province as a destination for tourism, business and leisure.

The province’s tourism strategy is largely people-centred, focusing on experiences and activities rather than traditional attractions such as mountains, beaches and wildlife.

New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom, Germany, France and the United States are among Gauteng’s primary overseas source markets. China and India are also among its top 10 overseas markets, while the rest of the African continent accounts for a significant share of visitor numbers.
