Four individuals detained during the January protests in Sari are facing charges of “Moharebeh” (enmity against God) and “Efsad-fil-Arz” (corruption on Earth), offenses that carry potential death sentences under Iranian law.
According to the Detainees Follow-up Committee, security forces arrested Mehrshad Ahmadi, Naser Bajan, and Danial Niknaghsh at their homes on January 10. Naser Bajan had sustained injuries during protest actions two days before his arrest.
The three citizens have been held in Sari’s Tirkala Prison for over seven months. Reports indicate that they have appeared in court only once to face the capital charges of Moharebeh and Efsad-fil-Arz, with no formal trial date scheduled to date.
The detentions of Ahmadi, Bajan, and Niknaghsh are linked to the case of Amirhossein Pouyan, another protester arrested in Sari. Security agents reportedly extracted statements from Pouyan implicating the three men; however, the conditions surrounding those interrogations remain undisclosed.
Amirhossein Pouyan was arrested on the morning of January 9. Three days later, state media broadcast a video featuring forced confessions from Pouyan and two other citizens, attributing the death of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) member Majid Ranjbar to them.
