Arriving at Hillcrest Bowling Club this past Saturday, competitors and spectators were greeted by an overwhelming sea of colour as supporters from each club in the district turned out in force to cheer on their Open Singles champions competing for the prestigious PNB Champion of Champions crowns.
A day of intense knockout bowls produced eight competitors for Sunday’s semi-finals.
In the men’s competition, Firwood’s Andy Cyster faced Hillcrest’s Wayne Roberts, while Hillary’s Ruaan Victor took on Berea’s Elijah Mommen. Roberts and Victor emerged to set up a thrilling final.
The ladies’ semi-finals saw Amanzimtoti’s Hilary Lindsay defeat Mt Edgecombe’s Debbie de Kock, while Hillary’s Shannon Burger overcame Parkhill’s Candida Ives, setting the stage for another nail-biting showdown.
