Saturday’s sectional play in the PNB Junior Masters Championship at Queens Bowling Club produced a day of intense competition and exciting finishes, keeping spectators engrossed until the final bowls of the last round had been delivered.
The district’s top young bowlers battled through four demanding rounds of sectional play, with only two competitors emerging unbeaten. Umhlali Country Club’s Troy McDowell and Westville Bowling Club’s Jarred Bauristhene each won all their sectional matches to secure top positions heading into Sunday’s knockout stages.
The closest contest came in Section Four, where three of the four competitors finished level on points and shot difference determined the two qualifiers for the quarter-finals, highlighting just how competitive this championship has become.
Sunday’s playoff rounds continued to deliver quality bowls and dramatic encounters. In the semi-finals, Bauristhene booked his place in the championship decider with a solid victory over Firwood’s talented Tye Smit.
