With the excitement of the PNB league season now fading into memory and only limited fixtures on August’s calendar before the KwaZulu-Natal Fours gets under way in the NIBA district, bowlers across the province are turning their attention to the ever-popular sponsored tournaments that continue to keep greens alive during the winter months.

Firwood Bowling Club once again proved why their annual Christmas in July tournament has become a firm favourite on the bowls calendar. A full field of enthusiastic competitors descended on the club to battle for a share of the impressive R19 000 prize fund. While Christmas decorations, laughter and festive cheer created a relaxed atmosphere, the standard of bowls was anything but casual as teams fought fiercely over three pre-drawn rounds before the eventual winners emerged.

As always, Firwood’s reputation for exceptional hospitality shone through. Club members were visible throughout the day, preparing meals, serving refreshments, selling raffle tickets and ensuring every visitor felt welcome. Their teamwork behind the scenes was every bit as impressive as the bowling taking place on the greens.
