An 82-year-old man in Volos accused of sexually abusing his underage granddaughter has been scheduled to stand trial on August 21 at a city court.

Judicial proceedings were launched after the now-17-year-old girl told her mother about the alleged incident, which she said took place when she was younger.

The disclosure came after the girl repeatedly avoided visiting her paternal grandparents’ apartment, located on a lower floor of the same building.

The case has had wider repercussions for the family, with the girl’s parents subsequently separating. Her mother reported her husband to police, and restraining measures were imposed, including a ban on approaching the family home or communicating with his wife and children.

A key development in the case is expected on Monday, when the 17-year-old is due to give testimony before a child psychologist.
