The AIADMK cadre staged a demonstration here on Friday demanding crop loan waiver for all farmers and condemning the Tamil Nadu Government’s failure to get its due share of water from the Cauvery.Leading the protest organised in front of Tirunelveli Railway Junction, Tirunelveli district secretary of the party Thatchai N. Ganesa Raja said the TVK, which had given its poll promise of crop loan waiver for all farmers of Tamil Nadu, was giving the concession in phases only to a few agriculturists while others were being forced to repay the loan even after they had suffered hefty crop loss this year due to the impacts of super El-Nino.Even as the agriculturists across the State had been betrayed by not waiving the crop loan, the farmers of the delta region had been waiting indefinitely for water from Cauvery as this government had miserably failed to get the Tamil Nadu’s rightful share of water from the inter-State river.“Above all, the TVK government has been a mute spectator even as the Karnataka Government is taking every possible step for constructing the new dam at Mekedatu, which will effectively plug the flow of water from Karnataka to Tamil Nadu. In other words, the Cauvery delta farmers will never get water for raising paddy as the entire quantity of Cauvery water will be stored in Mekedatu, Krisharaja Sagar and other three dams,” Mr. Ganesa Raja said.
