AIADMK cadre staging a protest in Thoothukudi on Friday, demanding crop-loan waiver and compensation for farmers affected by water shortage.

AIADMK cadre staged a demonstration in Thoothukudi on Thursday as part of a state-wide protest condemning the TVK government for failing to fully waive the crop loans of farmers as promised in the election manifesto.The protest was organised by the united Thoothukudi district AIADMK near VVD Signal. Thoothukudi South District Secretary S.P. Shanmuganathan presided over the demonstration.The protesters said that the TVK government had failed to fulfil its promise of fully waiving crop loans and criticised its alleged inaction on the Mekedatu issue. They demanded that the government take steps to prevent Karnataka from proceeding with its efforts to construct the Mekedatu dam across the Cauvery river.They also urged the government to ensure that Tamil Nadu receives its rightful share of Cauvery water.The protestors raised slogans highlighting their demands and called upon the state government to fulfil its promises concerning the farmers and protect Tamil Nadu’s interest in the Cauvery water dispute.
