The students’ wing of the AIADMK on Wednesday (December 17, 2025) staged a demonstration in Chennai to highlight alleged shortcomings in a scheme — to be launched by the DMK government shortly — involving free distribution of laptops to students.
N. Balaganga, former Member of Pariament, and Singai G Ramachandran, State secretary of the wing, were among those who took part in the protest. Mr. Balaganga said the government, keeping an eye on the forthcoming Assembly poll, had been “hurriedly” seeking to implement the scheme, which was originally carried out by the previous AIADMK regime.
According to information available with him, only students in the final year of undergraduate degree courses were going to be covered now, whereas his party wanted the entire student community to be covered, on the lines of what the previous government did, the former MP said.

At the party headquarters, party general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami interacted, in person and online, with student-beneficiaries of the scheme that was executed when the AIADMK was in power. The youth expressed their “anguish” about the non-implementation of the scheme over the past four and a half years.
