Police in the Western Cape got more than they bargained for during a multi-disciplinary operation in Bredasdorp on Wednesday.
The operation resulted in the shutdown of an illegal scrap yard, the recovery of municipal infrastructure and a major drug seizure.
The provincial police spokesperson, Captain Frederick van Wyk, said members of Napier SAPS, Cape Agulhas Municipality Traffic and Law Enforcement, and Cape Agulhas officials executed a targeted raid on an unlicensed scrap metal dealership in the area.
“During the primary search, police recovered heavy-duty copper cables, electrical boxes, and water fittings positively identified as property belonging to the Cape Agulhas Municipality. A commercial scale and solar panels were also seized. The total value of this infrastructure is estimated at R550,000,” van Wyk said.
